This was my first trip to visit the North Texas Linux Users Group. It was at the Nokia office out on the east side. We spent the morning helping people figure out issues on their computers (I got to help save someone’s data off of a bad partition). After that there was a talk on hardening a Linux system. The presentation was very informative and the people were very nice and helpful. I will definitely check out the meeting for next month.

Midtown Brews
June 7, 2007 5:30pm - 7:00pm
David Beach of EcoCity Cleveland gave a presentation about the future of sustainable cities. He is giving this same talk at a large conference this summer and we were his test group. It was some interesting conversation about how we can redesign our cities and homes to produce enough energy to sustain itself and reduce the amount of carbon emissions.
Afterwards, we also briefly talked about how small organizations can use various web-based tools to reach a larger audience. This just happened because most of the people in the room were from these local environmental organizations.

Greater Cleveland PC Users Group - General Meeting
January 13, 2007 9:30am - 12:00pm
What’s New, What’s Hot, What’s Cool?
Every January, thousands of techies make the desert pilgrimage to Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to see the latest industry offerings. Companies spend months planning and developing products to announce and launch at CES. The feedback, reviews and buzz which come from CES are key to the product’s success. This year, several of our members will be attending CES. They will join us at the January 13th General Meeting to give us their impression of what products should be on our must have list and which ones should go back to the drawing board.
The Annual Conference of the Association of Personal Computer User Groups (APCUG), which GCPCUG is a member, was held just before CES. Hear what is going with other user groups. There will also be the usual question and answer period.
This was my first experience with the GCPCUG. It was an interesting experience; they seem to be one of the larger well organized PCUG’s across the nation. I won an O’REILLY book on Windows Vista in the second chance drawing.
I think I will go back next month. They also have numerous Special Interest Groups. I plan to look into those as well.
Midtown Brews
December 10, 2006 5:30pm - 7:30pm
This is a monthly technology event in Cleveland where they have a speaker come in to do a presentation on a particular aspect of technology. It has a social feel to it because organizers ask that you bring in your favorite six pack to share.
This was my first Midtown Brews and I didn’t get to stay very long because I was just stopping by on my to an event of one of my companies’ clients. I am not sure what the topic was because I left before they got started with the formal event. I think I will try to pursue it more in the future.
